Search Words
Entering more than one search word will find index entries that include all words, regardless of word order or placement.
A search for park softball gets the same results as a search for softball park.
To search for an exact phrase, enclose it in quotation marks:
"department of transportation"
To find items that include any one of your search words (but not necessarily all of them), add "OR" between words:
police OR fire
To find items that include one word, but that do not include a second word, add a hyphen/minus sign to the beginning of the second word:
rock -island
(finds "rock" but removes anything that mentions "island" -- e.g., "Rock Island" will not be found)
Dates
To restrict your results to newspaper articles published within a specific range of dates, enter or select "From" and "To" dates.
Dates may be entered in yyyy-mm-dd format: 1997-12-31
When selecting a date from the popup calendar, year, month, and day all need to be chosen.
Requesting Articles
Clicking the title of a newspaper article in your results list will bring up additional information, including a "request this article" link. To request a photocopy of the article, follow that link and contact the library according the instructions it provides.
